As part of its off‑site programming, LaM Vagabonde has launched an original research program around the notion of Art Brut, leading to meetings, the Trouble Fête festival, exhibitions in Armentières such as Cavalcades and Épluchures, and History to Follow. Drawing on the most current practices and questions, the conference "Droit au Brut" offers an innovative approach to Art Brut by bringing into dialogue ethical, historical, legal and institutional conceptions of this artistic category. Plastic, literary or musical creations, initially kept as simple documents or curiosities, have gradually been brought out of the shadows until being recognized as important works of art. What have been the paths to this recognition? What has been and what is the place reserved for their authors? What has been and what is the role of mediators, institutions? What lessons can we draw today from this recognition and for which issues?
Sarah Lombardi, director of the Collection de l'Art Brut, will speak on Thursday December 4 at 9:30 am to discuss the acquisition policy of works within the Collection, especially regarding the importance of the relationship with the authors and rights holders.
Eleanor Philippoz, researcher and mediator at the Collection, will speak on Thursday December 4 at 9:45 am to examine the use of photography by authors in the field of Art Brut and the ethical issues of display/integration linked to this particular medium.
