Marguerite Burnat-Provins et Jeanne Perdriel-Vaissière : un goût fraternel pour une nature sauvage, de la Suisse à la Bretagne

The work of the Franco-Swiss artist Marguerite Burnat-Provins (1872–1952) features prominently within the Neuve Invention movement through her series of visionary drawings entitled ‘Ma Ville’. Her work is also centred on a fascination with the wild nature of the Valais. The Breton writer Jeanne Perdriel-Vaissière (1870–1951), also known by the pseudonym Saint-Cygne, shares with Marguerite Burnat-Provins a love of nature and, in particular, the landscapes of Brittany.

During this lecture, Pascal Le Maléfan – honorary professor of psychology at the University of Rouen and author of several publications on Marguerite Burnat-Provins as well as the intertwining of madness and creativity – will explore the parallels between these two artists and the way in which nature – one in Valais and the other in Brittany – inspired them in their respective creative work.

Moderator: Pascale Jeanneret, curator at the Collection de l'Art Brut.
