We have very little information on this creator. His works belonged to the psychiatrist Hans Steck, who in turn bequeathed them to the Collection de l’Art Brut in 1976. Most probably, while interned at the Cery Psychiatric Hospital (near Lausanne), Alexandre Bachelard was one of Dr. Steck’s patients. Apparently, he sought inspiration in photographs and reproductions which he either traced or redrew himself using lead and colored pencil. Often, too, he inscribed the back of his supports and even the spaces around his depictions with pastry recipes.
