Celebration weekend at the Collection de l'Art Brut!

On Friday March 4th, some 600 people flocked to the Opening Reception of our anniversary show "Art Brut, at the origins of the Collection" and attended the festivities that followed later that evening.

Several outstanding figures did us the honor of attending, including the creators François Burland, Guy Brunet, André Robillard and Marie-Rose Lortet, as well as various directors and prominent names in the realm of Art Brut—the likes of Sophie and Agnès Bourbonnais, directors of the  La Fabuloserie museum in France; James Brett, director of the Museum of Everything (London); Roger Cardinal, the renowned Art Brut specialist from London and author of a number of titles in the field; Marie-José Georges, director of Facteur Cheval's  Ideal Palace in France; Nina Kristic, director of the Museum of Marginal and Naive Art in Belgrade; John Maizels, director of the English review Raw Vision (London); Sophie Webel, director of the Jean Dubuffet Foundation in Paris.

Further, over the weekend of March 5th and 6th, more than 1200 visitors  showed up at the museum, with the Young Public's roster of events attracting some 97 children and their parents.

Further still—and this despite the freezing weather and falling snow—on Saturday evening Jean-Claude Drouin (son of the gallery owner René Drouin, who mounted Jean Dubuffet's first show of Art Brut in 1949) and Michel Thévoz (first director of the Collection de l'Art Brut) treated some 80 people to their recollections of the inimitable Jean Dubuffet.

Our fortieth anniversary continues throughout the year 2016, promising to include a number of exhibitions and theme evenings ("Encounters with") in connection with art brut: several concerts, film screenings and a seminar at the UNIL in November are all on the agenda.
