Public opening of the "Henriette Zéphir" exhibition

Born in 1920 near Toulouse, Henriette Zéphir did not consider herself an artist. Sho worked tirelessly beyond her ninety-first birthday, sometimes devoting more than ten hours a day to producing her drawings. Driven to create by a presence she sensed at her side, Zéphir produced compositions of sinuous shapes in pencil, ballpoint pen and India ink. Jean Dubuffet, who met her in 1965, referred to them as "guipures", a form of lacework, and purchased twenty of her works.
