The publication of Jean Dubuffet's Photo Albums
In parallel with the Jean Dubuffet – l’outil photographique (the photographic tool) show set up jointly by the Arles Rencontres de la photographie (photographic encounters), the Dubuffet Foundation and the Elysée Museum, the Collection de l'Art Brut and the 5 Continents publishing house are jointly publishing fourteen photographic albums drawn up by Jean Dubuffet in around 1948, in connection with his Art Brut research. The albums have been housed in the museum archives since its opening in 1976.
The advent of this over 800-page long publication belongs to a project instigated by the museum's director: namely, that of showcasing the Lausanne museum's archives, as started off in 2016 with the publication of the Almanach de l'Art Brut.
The publication of Jean Dubuffet's photo albums is accompanied by that of an introductory booklet featuring texts by various specialists: a preface by Sarah Lombardi, Director of the Collection de l’Art Brut, together with the writings of Baptiste Brun, Nicolas Garnier, Karoline Lewandowska, Jean-Hubert Martin, Jérôme Pierrat and Michel Thévoz.
Five of these photo albums are being loaned out by the Collection de l'Art Brut to the Jean Dubuffet – l’outil photographique show being held at the Arles "Rencontres de la photographie" (photography encounters) from July 3 to September 27, 2017; and, too, to the Musée de l’Elysée, Lausanne, for its show May 30th to September 23rd, 2018.
