A thesis on Francis Mathey, at the University of Picardy, Amiens (France).

Brigitte Gilardet will be defending her thesis entitled "L’action de François Mathey en faveur de l’art vivant, de 1953 à 1985" [François Mathey's action in favor of living art] on November 23, 2012, at 2:30pm in Amiens (at the University of Picardy). Jean-Marie Lhôte will preside the jury; Laurence Bertrand Dorléac, thesis director, Rémi Labrusse and Jean- Marc Poinsot will also be in attendance.

Brigitte Gilardet will present a public lecture entitled "L'action originale de François Mathey en faveur de la démocratisation culturelle dans le domaine des musées (1953-1985)" [François Mathey's original action on behalf of cultural democratization in the museum realm (1953-1985)], under the auspices of the "La démocratisation culturelle au fil de l'histoire contemporaine" [cultural democratization running through contemporary history] series of talks sponsored by the French Ministry of Culture's Historic Committee. No entrance fee, but advance booking is required.

A small reminder:  François Mathey, a friend of Jean Dubuffet's, directed the Musée des Arts Décoratifs [Decorative Arts Museum] in Paris at the time of the 1967 "Art Brut" exhibition there.
