Biography

Michel Dalmaso (1945 - 2024) was born in Paris, France, and grew up in Morocco, where he took music lessons, learning the trumpet and several other instruments. His family returned to France when he was a teenager, and at the age of eighteen he discovered jazz and free jazz. He developed a passion for exploring sound, leading him to create instruments from recycled objects, from which he produced acoustic or electrically amplified sounds.
He attended the school of fine arts in Rouen, where he practised automatic drawing. Then, discovering Art Brut, he began to draw and paint on a more regular basis. It was during this period that he entered into correspondence with Jean Dubuffet, with whom he remained close friends.
