Jean Dubuffet's Art Brut, the origins of the collection (2016) New edition 2020
L'Art Brut de Jean Dubuffet, aux origines de la collection [Jean Dubuffet's Art Brut, the origins of the collection], directed by Sarah Lombardi, with texts by Sarah Lombardi a.o., Lausanne, Paris: Collection de l'Art Brut, Flammarion, 2016, 224 pp, 170 color illus., bilingual French/English.
Published in honor of the museum's fortieth anniversary, and re-published in 2020, a bilingual catalogue (French/English) looks back over the key moments marking the history of the Collection de l'Art Brut: Dubuffet's first canvassing trip in Switzerland in 1945; the stakes that the historic 1949 exhibition entailed; the Compagnie de l'Art Brut's exile to the USA from 1951 to 1962; Dubuffet's donation to the City of Lausanne in 1971; and the museum's inauguration in 1976.
The catalogue also examines the expansion of the collections, and of the museum's four-decade-long exhibition policy, along with questions relating to conservation and archiving.
